If your track is a continuous 8-foot or 12-foot run, don't use individual downlights. You'll end up with a row of spotlights instead of a solid, uniform light. Instead, use a surface-mount or suspended LED panel. They fit the same footprint as a linear track run.
- Better for: Corridors, aisles, and spaces where you need even, task-level illumination.
- Wiring: Panels usually require a junction box at one end. This is often simpler than wiring multiple downlights.

- Residential (home): 2700K-3000K. Nobody wants a cool white in their living room.
- High-bay (warehouses, gyms): 5000K. This is where you need high output and good visibility. An Osram high-bay luminaire with 15,000+ lumens will save you 60% energy over HID.
What about CRI? For retail, you want CRI > 90. For warehouses, 80 is fine. Don't overspend on high-CRI bulbs where you don't need them.
Sunlight feel: If you're doing a retail or hospitality space, consider tunable white (2700K to 6500K). It's not standard yet, but it's a nice touch for spaces that change use through the day. - Don't forget about dimming compatibility. Not all LEDs dim the same way. Use a compatible dimmer (like Lutron or Leviton) or you'll have flicker.
